Storm leaves Attack behind in third period

GUELPH – Three goals in the third period sparked the Guelph Storm to a 5-2 victory over the Owen Sound Attack in Ontario Hockey League play Friday night at the Sleeman Centre.

The teams had scored once apiece in both the first and second periods before the Storm scored all three goals of the third.

Owen Lalonde had a pair of goals for the Storm while Alexey Toropchenko, MacKenzie Entwistle and Sean Durzi also scored. Entwistle assisted on two of the goals and Isaac Ratcliffe, Zack Terry, Cedric Ralph, Keegan Stevenson, Liam Hawel, Fedor Gordeev and Nate Schnarr each had one assist.

Aidan Dudas and Daylon Groulx scored for Owen Sound while Jackson Doherty and Carter Robertson each had one assist.

The Storm outshot Owen Sound 36-25 and went 1-for-2 on their power play while Owen Sound was scoreless on both of its power plays.

Nico Daws picked up the win in net with 23 saves for the Storm. Mack Guzda was tagged with the loss for the Attack. He had 31 saves.

With the win the Storm improves to 24-12-4-4. They’re second in the Midwest Division behind the London Knights (30-7-4-1) while Owen Sound is third at 22-17-2-2.

Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds (28-10-4-1) lead the West Division and are second in the Western Conference while the Storm moves into a tie with the Saginaw Spirit (26-12-2-2) for third in the conference. Saginaw has two games in hand on the Storm.

The Storm is to host the Central Division-leading Niagara IceDogs (25-10-7-0) Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Sleeman Centre.
