
Storm makes it back-to-back wins over Attack
OWEN SOUND – The Guelph Storm put an end to their three-game road losing streak in the OHL Saturday night when they defeated the Owen Sound Attack 4-3 in overtime at Owen Sound’s Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre.
It was the second 4-3 win over the Attack in as many days and the second one that required more than regulation time to get a decision.
Guelph Storm 4 Owen Sound Attack 3 (OT)
Danny Zhilkin collected the game-winner at 3:19 of overtime to get the win in a game the Storm had led by two early in the third period.
While Owen Sound scored the first goal of the game, Guelph responded with three in a row to go ahead.
The Storm led 2-1 at the end of the first period and 3-1 after the second, but the Attack tied it with a pair of power-play goals in the first half of the third period.
Michael Buchinger, Max Namestnikov and Valentin Zhugin scored in regulation time for the Storm while Cam Allen had two assists in the game and Charlie Paquette, Jake Karabela, Matthew Poitras, Jett Luchanko and Namestnikov had one apiece.
Sam Sedley, Colby Barlow and Deni Goure connected for the goals for Owen Sound and Cedrick Guindon had two assists. Sedley, Kaleb Lawrence and Barlow each had an assist.
The Storm outshot the Attack 34-27 with exactly half of their shots coming in the first period. Guelph was 1-for-4 on its power play while Owen Sound was 2-for-5.
Jacob Oster had 24 saves for the Storm while Corbin Votary had 30 for Owen Sound.
Guelph is ninth in the 10-team Western Conference at 8-12-2-1. Their four-game win streak, though, has left the Storm a point behind the eighth-place Soo Greyhounds and three behind the seventh-place Erie Otters.
Owen Sound is second in the conference at 14-7-1-1.
The Storm is to tangle with the sixth-place London Knights (12-7-1-0) Tuesday at London’s Budweiser Gardens. The Knights have seven wins in their last eight games.
Game time Tuesday is 7 p.m.
