Storm nipped by Erie Otters in overtime
ERIE, Pa. – The Guelph Storm surrendered a goal in overtime as they fell 3-2 to the Erie Otters in Ontario Hockey League play Saturday night at the Erie Insurance Arena.
After a scoreless first period, host Erie scored twice in the second period to shoot ahead.
The Storm came back in the third period, netting a pair of goals with Fedor Gordeev’s tally with 1:42 to go in the period tying the score.
However, Erie won it on Chad Yetman’s goal in OT.
Isaac Ratcliffe scored the other goal for the Storm while Sean Durzi, MacKenzie Entwistle and Cedric Ralph each had an assist.
Both of Guelph’s goals came on special teams as Ratcliffe scored a power-play marker and Gordeev connected while the Storm was shorthanded.
Gera Poddubnyi and Brendan Hoffman had the other goals for Erie. Assists went to Marcus Gillard, Petr Cajka and Emmett Sproule.
Erie outshot the Storm 33-32 and was scoreless on three power plays while Guelph was 1 for 2.
Anthony Popovich took the loss in the Guelph net and Daniel Murphy had the win for Erie.
The Storm (25-13-5-4) stays second in the Midwest Division and fourth in the Western Conference. Erie (19-26-1-1) is fifth in the division and ninth in the conference.
Saturday’s game was the Storm’s fourth road game that went into OT in its last seven road games. They have two wins and two losses in those OT games.
The Storm is to host the Saginaw Spirit (30-12-2-2) Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Sleeman Centre. Saginaw is second in the West Division and third in the Western Conference.
