Storm rallies to topple Mississauga in preseason
MISSISSAUGA – The Guelph Storm struck for the final five goals of the game including four in the third period as they came from behind for a 7-6 victory over the Mississauga Steelheads in Ontario Hockey League preseason action Sunday afternoon at the Paramount Fine Foods Centre.
Mississauga led 3-1 at the end of the first period and extended that advantage to 6-1 with just less than eight minutes to go in the second period.

Matthew Poitras scored the winner for the Storm with 2:25 to go in the third period. That goal was Guelph’s third in a span of two minutes and three seconds.
The Storm had seven goal-scorers in the game as Charlie Paquette, Jake Karabela, Danny Zhilkin, Chase Coughlan, Jacob Maillet and Jakob MacRae potted the other goals. Cam Allen and Ryan McGuire each had two assists while Karabela, Poitras, Zhilkin, Leo Hafenrichter and Paquette were awarded one apiece.
Zakary Lavoie had a hat trick for Mississauga while Owen Beck, Luke Misa and Callum Chisholm each added single tallies. Stefan Forgione collected two assists while Dylan Gordon, Kasper Larsen, Luca DelBelBelluz, Evan Brand, Zander Veccia and Aidan Prueter had one each.
The Storm outshot Mississauga 35-31 including a 12-4 advantage in the third period.
Guelph went 1-for-5 on its power play while Mississauga went 1-for-4 and each team won 34 faceoffs.
Dixon Grimes started in goal for the Storm and faced 23 shots before Jacob Oster faced eight shots in the final 29 minutes of the game.
The game was the second of six preseason matches for the Storm and the second of four with the Steelheads. Mississauga won the first one 3-1 at the Sleeman Centre Sept. 4.
The Storm has a home-and-home series with the Niagara IceDogs in preseason play next weekend. They’re to play at the Sleeman Centre Friday and in St. Catharines Saturday.
Game time is 7:30 p.m. Friday and 7 p.m. Saturday.
