Storm schedule’s out, they’re to start at Windsor Sept. 20

GUELPH – The Guelph Storm is to open the Ontario Hockey League’s regular-season for the 2018-19 season Sept. 20 with a game against the Windsor Spitfires at Windsor’s WFCU Centre.

The league released its schedule for the upcoming regular season Tuesday.

The Storm’s home opener is set for Sept. 21 when they’re to play the Sudbury Wolves at the Sleeman Centre. Game time is 7:30 p.m.

Those two games mark the first of 27 times during the regular season that the Storm is slated to play on back-to-back days. That total includes six three-in-threes where they’re to play three times in three days.

The Storm had back-to-back three-in-three weekends on their schedule in October. They’re to host Owen Sound Oct. 12, play at Sarnia Oct. 13 and host London Oct. 14. The following weekend they’re to play at Kitchener Oct. 19, at Owen Sound Oct. 20 and host Kitchener Oct. 21.

Other three-in-three weekends are set for Nov. 23 to 25 (host Sault Ste. Marie, at Barrie, at North Bay), Dec. 14 to 16 (host Peterborough, host Mississauga, at Oshawa), Feb. 8 to 10 (host Sarnia, at Sarnia, host Kingston) and March 8 to 10 (host Saginaw, at Owen Sound, host Kitchener).

Longest stretch of consecutive road games during the season is three, something the Storm is slated to do four times: Oct. 30 to Nov 3 (at Kitchener, Sault Ste. Marie and Saginaw), Dec. 7 to 11 (at Sault Ste. Marie, Sudbury, Owen Sound), Jan. 8 to 11 (at London, Niagara, Kitchener) and Feb. 23 to 27 (at Flint, London, Erie).

The Storm’s longest homestand is also three games, something they’re to do five times: Oct. 21 to 28 (vs. Kitchener, Erie, Sault Ste. Marie), Nov. 16 to 23 (vs. Flint, London, Sault Ste. Marie), Jan. 18 to 25 (vs. Owen Sound, Niagara, Owen Sound), Feb. 15 to 22 (vs. Kitchener, Flint, Erie) and March 10 to 15 (vs. Kitchener, London, Erie).

Of the Storm’s 34 home games, only two are not on weekends and both are scheduled for Wednesday nights. They do have a Monday game, but it’s on a holiday weekend as it’s to be played on Family Day.

Friday continues to be the Storm’s main home night as they have 20 Friday home games. They have nine home games on Sundays and the other two home games are Saturday games.

All home games are to be played at the Sleeman Centre.

The Storm is to complete their regular season March 16 with a game in Erie. It’s the second consecutive season the Storm is to finish their regular season in Erie and the third straight season their final road game is in Erie.
