Storm send draft picks to North Bay for Czech defenceman

GUELPH – The Guelph Storm sent three conditional draft picks to the North Bay Battalion for the rights to Czech defenceman Martin Has.

The Storm sent the Battalion Saginaw’s third-round pick and their own 15th-round pick in 2022 and Mississauga’s third-round pick in 2023.

Has was selected in the fifth round, 153rd overall, of last year’s NHL entry draft.

The 6-foot-4, 192-pound defenceman was picked by North Bay in the first round, 23rd overall, of last year’s Canadian Hockey League import draft.

Has played a single game with the Battalion this season before going to Finland to play in the SM-liga, that country’s top league, with Tappara Tampere, where he has a goal and an assist in five games. He also had a goal and two assists in five games with the Czech Republic team at the recently-completed world junior tournament and a goal in 13 games with KooVee Tampere of Finland’s Mestis league.

Has is to turn 19 next month.
