Storm shut down by London Knights

GUELPH – The Guelph Storm’s weekend winning streak came to an end Sunday when they were downed 5-1 by the London Knights in Ontario Hockey League play at the Sleeman Centre.

After a scoreless first period, the Knights connected for three goals in the second and two in the third while the lone Guelph goal came early in the third when Cedric Ralph scored while Zach Poirier and Ryan Merkley drew assists on the play.

Max Jones had two goals for London while Evan Bouchard, Cliff Pu and Alex Formenton added single goals. Pu, Liam Foudy and Bouchard each had two assists while single assists were awarded to Formenton, Robert Thomas and Tyler Rollo.

Anthony Popovich stopped 31 shots, but was tagged with the loss for the Storm while Joseph Raaymakers was the winning netminder for the Knights.

London outshot the Storm 36-29 and went 3-for-8 its the power play while Guelph was scoreless on two power plays.

The game was the third in as many days for the Storm who had defeated the Barrie Colts 5-4 in overtime at the Sleeman Centre Friday night and doubled the Owen Sound Attack 4-2 at Owen Sound Saturday night.

The Storm is third in the Midwest Division at 12-10-1-2. They’re one point behind second-place Owen Sound (13-9-0-2) and one ahead of fourth-place London (12-11-2-0).

The Storm is to host the Erie Otters (10-12-2-1) Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Sleeman Centre and make another trip to Owen Sound for a 7:30 p.m. game against the Attack Saturday.
