Storm silences Sting to stretch win streak to 10 games

GUELPH – The Guelph Storm scored a single goal in each period as they extended their Ontario Hockey League win streak to 10 games with a 3-0 blanking of the Sarnia Sting Friday night at the Sleeman Centre.

Nico Daws picked up the shutout in the Storm net as his teammates held Sarnia to 17 shots including five in the first period and two in the second.

Eric Uba had two of the goals while Matthew Papais scored the other one. Pavel Gogolev collected two assists while single helpers went to Cam Hillis, Luka Profaca and Jacob Roach.

Neither team managed a power-play goal, the Sting on two power plays and the Storm on three.

Ethan Langevin took the loss in the Sarnia net. He stopped 36 shots.

The Storm , the least penalized team in the league with 188 penalty minutes in 20 games, are tied for the lead in the Midwest Division with the Erie Otters. Guelph’s at 13-4-1-2 while Erie’s at 11-6-2-5. The Storm had four games in hand.

The Storm, Erie and the Windsor Spitfires (13-3-3-0) are tied for the Western Conference lead. Windsor has a game in hand on the Storm and five on Erie.

The Storm are to play the Hamilton Bulldogs (fourth in the East Division at 11-13-1-0) at Hamilton’s FirstOntario Centre Saturday at 4 p.m.
