
Storm starts homestand with shootout loss to Sarnia
GUELPH – The Guelph Storm started a four-game homestand in OHL play with a 3-2 loss in a shootout to the Sarnia Sting Sunday at the Sleeman Centre.
Nolan Burke’s goal in a shootout, the only scorer of five who shot (three for the Storm) in the shootout, gave Sarnia the victory.

Both teams had a one-goal lead during regulation time.
Sarnia scored the opening goal of the game early in the first period before the Storm pulled even on a goal by Cooper Walker about four and a half minutes later.
The Storm shot ahead when Matthew Poitras scored with 31 seconds to go in the second.
The Sting got that one back at 6:13 of the third when Burke scored on a power play.
A five-minute overtime period was scoreless.
Sasha Pastujov, Danny Zhilkin and Cam Allen each had an assist for the Storm.
Easton Wainwright scored Sarnia’s first goal while Max Namestnikov, Zach Filak, Marko Sikic and Ty Voit each had an assist in the game.
Sarnia outshot the Storm 33-28 and went 1-for-3 on its power play while Guelph was scoreless on three power plays.
Brayden Gillespie made his OHL debut in net for the Storm and he had 21 saves while Benjamin Gaudreau had 26 for Sarnia.
The Storm is 10th in the Western Conference at 4-12-2-1 while Sarnia’s fourth at 9-6-2-1.
The Storm’s homestand at the Sleeman Centre continues this week with games against the Niagara IceDogs (10th in East at 4-10-3-0) Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Kitchener Rangers (ninth in West at 7-9-0-0) Saturday at 4 p.m.
