Storm sunk by Hamilton in shootout to finish preseason

HAMILTON – A goal by Guelph native Logan Morrison in a shootout lifted the Hamilton Bulldogs to a 5-4 victory over the Guelph Storm in Ontario Hockey League preseason play Saturday night at the Dave Andreychuk Mountain Arena.

Hamilton recovered from an early 2-0 deficit as the Storm scored twice in the first three and a half minutes of the game.

However, Hamilton led 3-2 at the end of the first period and the teams were tied 4-4 at the end of the second before a scoreless third.

Andrei Bakanov, Daniil Chayka, Ty Collins and Cedric Ralph scored for the Storm while Danny Zhilkin had two assists and Jacob Maillet, Marko Sikic, Chayka, Pavel Gogolev and Collins had one each.

Morrison also had a goal for Hamilton in regulation time as did Jake Gravelle, Navrin Mutter and Liam Van Loon. Single assists were awarded to Morrison, Josh Wainman, Gavin White, Michael Renwick, Lawson Sherk, Cameron Supryka and Mutter each had one.

Morrison’s goal in the shootout was the only goal of the shootout.

The Storm outshot Hamilton 27-25, but were scoreless on their only power play while the Bulldogs went 1-for-6.

Guelph’s Owen Bennett and Hamilton’s Marco Costantini each had 23 saves in the game.

The game wrapped up the preseason for the Storm (2-2-0-1). Hamilton finishes at 2-2-0-0.

The defending league champion Storm are to open their regular season Friday with a home game Friday against the Ottawa 67’s. Game time at the Sleeman Centre is 7:30 p.m.
