Storm surprised by Owen Sound Attack

OWEN SOUND – The Guelph Storm surrendered a goal in each period as they were surprised 3-1 by the Owen Sound Attack in Ontario Hockey League play Saturday night at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre.

The Storm’s lone goal came in the second minute of the game as Sasha Pastujov extended his goal-scoring streak to five games. He’s tied for the league lead with Tye Kartye of the Soo Greyhounds and he has a league-high 27 points in 16 games.

Daniil Chayka and Danny Zhilkin assisted on the Storm’s goal.

Stepan Machacek, Cedrick Guindon and Gavin Bryant each scored a goal for the Attack while Servac Petrovsky had two assists and Andrew Perrott, Ethan Burroughs and Sam Sedley had one apiece.

The Storm outshot Owen Sound 46-33 including a 38-20 margin after the first period.

Guelph’s goal was a power-play marker – they had six power plays – while the hosts went 1-for-2 on their power play.

Jacob Oster had 30 saves in the loss for the Storm while winning netminder Nick Chenard had 45.

The Storm had won their previous two meetings with Owen Sound, outscoring the Attack 16-7 in the process.

Guelph falls a spot to third in the Western Conference at 9-6-1-0 while Owen Sound (6-6-1-1) is in a tie for fourth with the Kitchener Rangers (7-7-0-0) and Windsor Spitfires (6-5-0-2). London Knights lead at 11-1-1-0 and the Soo Greyhounds (10-6-0-0) are second.

The Storm and Attack are to meet again Friday at the Sleeman Centre. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
