Storm yield four in third in loss to Flint Firebirds
GUELPH – The Flint Firebirds connected for four consecutive goals in the third period to come back for a 7-5 victory over the Guelph Storm in Ontario Hockey League play Friday night at the Sleeman Centre.
Flint had led 3-0 at the end of the first period before the Storm shot ahead 4-3 by the end of the second. The hosts added to their lead early in the third before Flint started its rally, completing it with three goals in the final five and a half minutes of the game.
Scoring the goals for the Storm were Eric Uba with two and Cam Hillis, Andrei Bakanov and Pavel Gogolev with one apiece. Fedor Gordeev assisted on three of the goals while Hillis had two assists and Gogolev, Uba, Daniil Chayka, Martin Has and Ben McFarlane had one apiece.
Ty Dellandrea hit for two goals for Flint while Jack Wismer, Ethan Keppen, Brennan Othmann, Riley McCourt and Riley Piercey had one apiece. Jake Durham set up three of the goals while single assists went to Keppen, Owen Lalonde, Wismer, Evgeniy Oksentyuk, Dellandrea, Piercey and Jack Phibbs.
The Storm outshot Flint 32-31 and went 2-for-5 on their power play while the Firebirds scored on their lone power play.
Nico Daws had 24 saves in the loss in the Storm net while Anthony Popovich had 27 saves to get the win in net for Flint.
The loss was the eighth in a row for the Storm.
The Firebirds and Storm are to meet again Saturday night at Flint.
