Storm yields four in a row in loss to Owen Sound

OWEN SOUND – The Guelph Storm surrendered four consecutive goals as they suffered a 5-2 loss to the Owen Sound Attack in Ontario Hockey League play Saturday night at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre.

The teams were tied 1-1 at the end of the first period before Owen Sound’s Kevin Hancock started the Attack’s run of four consecutive goals early in the second period. Owen Sound was ahead 3-1 at the end of the second.

Cedric Ralph and Mason Primeau scored for the Storm while Ryan Merkley, Ralph and Barret Kirwin each had one assist.

Hancock tallied twice for Owen Sound while Maksim Sushko, Kaleb Pearson and Cade Robinson added single goals. Aidan Dudas had a pair of assists while single assists went to Nick Suzuki, Pearson, Brady Lyle, Sean Durzi, Sushko, Griffin Wilson and Mitchell Russell.

Owen Sound held the Storm to less than 10 shots a period as the Attack outshot the Storm 42-20. Both teams were scoreless on three power plays.

Mack Guzda picked up the shutout for Owen Sound while Nico Daws made 37 saves in the Guelph net.

The loss was the second in as many nights for the Storm who fall to 6-4-1-0 on the season and are tied with Owen Sound (6-5-0-1) for second in the Midwest Division. The Kitchener Rangers, who defeated the Storm Friday night, lead the division at 6-3-2-0 and the London Knights (5-4-1-0) are fourth and the Erie Otters (3-6-1-0) are fifth.

The Storm and Rangers are to tangle again Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Sleeman Centre.
