Storm’s offence stymied in loss to Erie Otters
ERIE, Pa. – The Guelph Storm was held to 14 shots as they were handed a 4-1 setback in Ontario Hockey League play Saturday night at the Erie Insurance Arena.
Ty Collins scored the lone goal for the Storm, his power-play goal late in the second period pulling the locals into a 1-1 tie with their hosts. Jacob Roach and Pavel Gogolev assisted on the goal.
However, the stalemate didn’t last long as Erie went ahead for good 40 seconds later as Austen Swankler scored his second goal of the game.
Emmett Sproule and Chad Yetman scored the other goals for the Otters while Jack Duff and Hayden Fowler each had two assists and Brendan Sellan, Maxim Golod and Jamie Drysdale each had one assist.
Erie had 27 shots in the game, but the Otters were scoreless on four power plays while the Storm went 1-for-5.
Owen Bennett took the loss in the Guelph net. He had 23 saves.
Winning netminder Aidan Campbell had 13 saves.
The Storm is fifth in the Midwest Division at 2-3-1-1 while Erie is third at 5-4-0-0.
The Storm and Otters are to play again Friday at the Sleeman Centre. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
That game will be the start of a 3-in-3 weekend for the Storm as they’re to play the Niagara IceDogs (3-3-2-1) at St. Catharines Saturday at 7 p.m. and host the Sudbury Wolves (5-3-0-0) Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Sleeman Centre.
