
Storm’s second-period goals too much for Spirit
SAGINAW, Mich. – A pair of second-period goals gave the Guelph Storm a 2-1 victory over the Saginaw Spirit in Ontario Hockey League play Saturday at Saginaw’s Dow Event Center.
The hosts had sored their goal on a power play late in the first period.

Matthew Papais scored early in the second period for the Storm while Matthew Poitras netted the eventual game-winner with 1:12 to go in the period.
Assists went to Marko Sikic, Sasha Pastujov and Michael Buchinger.
Pavel Mintyukov struck for the power-play goal for Saginaw with 2:37 to go in the opening period. Dean Loukus and Calem Mangone collected assists on the play.
The Storm outshot the Spirit 26-17, but were scoreless on their only power play while Saginaw went 1-for-4 with a manpower advantage.
Jacob Oster had 16 saves to get the win in net for the Storm while Tristan Lennox took the loss with 24 saves for the Spirit.
The Storm are to host the Sarnia Sting Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Sleeman Centre and Saginaw Friday at 7:30 p.m.
