Storm’s win streak halted with loss to Sarnia

SARNIA – The Guelph Storm saw their winning streak come to an end when they were doubled 6-3 by the Sarnia Sting in Ontario Hockey League play Saturday night at the Progressive Auto Sales Arena.

The Storm had won their previous five games, scoring six goals in each of the wins.

Saturday, Sarnia outscored the Storm 2-1 in each of the three periods.

Mason Primeau, Zach Poirier and Tag Bertuzzi had a goal apiece for the Storm while Isaac Ratcliffe, Cam Hillis, Barret Kirwin, Cedric Ralph and Dmitri Samorukov each had one assist.

Hugo Leufvenius led Sarnia with a pair of goals while single markers were netted by Franco Sproviero, Anthony Salinitri, Brayden Guy and Calvin Martin. Sean Josling and Mitch Eliot each had two assists while single assists were awarded to Ryan McGregor, Guy, Ashton Reesor, Leufvenius and Adam Ruzicka.

The Sting outshot the Storm 27-24. Guelph went 1-for-5 on its power play while Sarnia was scoreless on its only power play.

Nico Daws was in net and took the loss for the Storm. Ethan Langevin picked up the win for Sarnia. Both goalies made 21 saves.

The loss combined with a 6-3 win for the Kitchener Rangers over the Flint Firebirds drops the Storm to second in the Midwest Division at 5-2-1-0. Kitchener leads at 5-1-2-0.

The Storm is to complete their first 3-in-3 weekend of the season with a game against the London Knights (4-3-0-0) Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Sleeman Centre.
