Third loss of weekend as Storm doubled by Ottawa

OTTAWA – The Guelph Storm’s first three-in-three weekend of the Ontario Hockey League season was a losing one as they yielded six goals in each game in losing all three.

The third loss of the weekend came Sunday afternoon as the Storm was doubled 6-3 by the undefeated Ottawa 67’s at Ottawa’s TD Place. They had been beaten 6-1 at home by the Saginaw Spirit Friday and 6-1 by the Kingston Frontenacs in Kingston Saturday.

The majority of the goals in Sunday’s game came in the third period when the hosts scored four times and the Storm netted all three of their goals.

Ottawa led 2-0 at the end of the first period before a scoreless second.

Braeden Bowman cut the gap to a single goal when he scored for the Storm at 1:19 of the third.

However, Ottawa scored the next two goals and the teams traded goals after that.

Cooper Walker and Michael Buchinger scored the other goals for the Storm while Jake Murray, Danny Zhilkin and Cam Allen each had an assist.

Brady Stonehouse and Tyler Boucher each had two goals for the 67’s while Vinzenz Rohrer and Jack Matier added single goals. Jack Beck and Matier collected two assists apiece while Cameron Tolnai, Stonehouse, Henry Mews, Anthony Costantini, Luca Pinelli and Rohrer each had one assist.

The 67’s outshot the Storm 39-22 and scored on each of their four power plays while the Storm was scoreless on two power plays, but did score two shorthanded goals. Ottawa also won 38 faceoffs to 23 for Guelph.

Jacob Oster had 33 saves in the Storm net while Collin MacKenzie had 19 saves for Ottawa.

The 67’s have won all six league games they’ve played this season while the Storm is at 1-5-1-0.

The Storm have a pair of home games at the Sleeman Centre this weekend as they’re to host the Oshawa Generals (3-3-0-1) Friday at 7:30 p.m. and the Kitchener Rangers (1-5-0-0) Saturday at 7 p.m.
