Third-period goals help Kincardine double Patriots
KINCARDINE – The Mount Forest Patriots yielded three goals in the third period, including two into an empty net, as they suffered a 6-3 loss to the Kincardine Bulldogs in a wide-open Provincial Junior Hockey League game Saturday night at Kincardine’s Davidson Centre.
The teams combined for 89 shots on goal in the game including 49 by host Kincardine.
The teams were tied 1-1 at the end of the first period before Kincardine took a 3-1 lead in the second by holding the Patriots to three shots in the period.
Jack Birkett hit for a pair of goals for the Patriots while Luke Eurig also scored. Nathan Bolger had two assists and Thomas Coulter, Michael Stefanelli and Ryley Cribbin had one apiece.
Logan Freiburger had two goals and two assists for Kincardine while Jordan Caskenette had two goals and one assist. The other goals were scored by Mike Fiegehen and Brett Burrows while single assists were awarded to Bryce McFadden, Fiegehen, Logan Swanton and Joseph Pringle.
The Patriots were scoreless on six power plays and the Bulldogs were scoreless on seven.
Aidan Quish had 43 saves in net for the Patriots while Jamie Brock made 37 saves in the Kincardine net.
Mount Forest (11-3-1-0) and Wingham Ironmen (11-4-1-0) are tied for the lead in the Pollock Division while Kincardine (8-5-0-0) is fifth.
The Patriots are to host the Walkerton Hawks (2-13-0-1) Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex.
