Thistles and Brantford to start West final Wednesday

FERGUS – The Fergus Thistles and Brantford Warriors are to start their Ontario Junior C Lacrosse League West Division final Wednesday night at Brantford’s Gretzky sports complex.

Game 2 is to go at the Centre Wellington Sportsplex Friday night.

The third game is slated for Sunday in Brantford, starting at 4 p.m. It’s the lone game of the best-of-five series that does not have an 8 p.m. game time.

If a fourth game is needed, it’s to be played Tuesday in Fergus.

If the series goes to its five-game limit, the fifth and deciding game is to be played at Brantford July 31.

The Thistles and Warriors reached the division final with wins in divisional semifinal series. Fergus defeated the Wilmot Wild 3-2 while Brantford disposed of the Barrie Bombers 3-1.

Brantford had a bye in the best-of-three divisional quarter-finals while the Thistles took the Halton Hills Bulldogs in two games.

The Thistles and Warriors met three times during the regular season with Brantford winning the season opener 10-9 in overtime at the Elora Community Centre April 27 and 11-9 in Brantford May 24. The Thistles won 9-6 in Fergus May 21.

Brantford finished atop the West Division at 13-3-0 while the Thistles were third at 11-5-0.

Winner of the series will face the winner of the East Division final in the best-of-seven Meredith Cup championship series.

Whitby Warriors opened the East final with a 21-8 victory over the Peterborough Lakers Monday at Whitby.
