Thistles connect in a hurry to keep Caledon winless

FERGUS – The Fergus Thistles burst out of the blocks on their way to a 15-6 victory over the Caledon Bandits in Ontario junior C lacrosse league play Friday night at the Centre Wellington Sportsplex.

The Thistles scored three times in the first three minutes of the game and led 6-2 at the end of the first period and they were in the midst of a seven-goal run at the end of the second when they led 12-4.

Justin Beaulieu hit for a hat trick for the Thistles while Nick Aitchison, McCaiden Dixon, Logan Cameron and Brett Harrison scored twice each and single goals were added by Adam Lantz, Eli McLeod, Carson Stevenson and J.J. Swanston. Harrison collected four assists while Lantz, Beaulieu and Jake Bauman had three apiece, Cameron and Dixon had two each and Kent Bremner, Aitchison, Jacob Hayne, Ryan Litt, Jonah White, Brody Schafer, Swanston and Stevenson each had one.

Darcy Tainsh had four goals and an assist to lead Caledon while Chris Hunter and Andrew Rybka also scored. Cole Goodwin assisted on four of the goals while Rybka and Lucas Correia assisted on two apiece and Brandon Marion and Josh MacIssac assisted on one each.

The Thistles dominated play as they outshot Caledon 79-31. Fergus went 2-for-4 on its power play while Caledon went 1-for-7.

Bremner made 25 saves for the win for the Thistles while Jacob Ferreira made 64 saves for Caledon.

With the win Fergus climbs to third in the West Division at 4-3-0 while Caledon is in the basement having lost all five games it has played.

The Thistles are to play the Brantford Warriors (2-2-0) at Brantford’s Gretzky complex May 27 at 3 p.m.
