Thistles hit for six in a row to top Six Nations

FERGUS – The Fergus Thistles struck for six consecutive goals in the second period on their way to a 10-2 victory over the Six Nations Stealth in Ontario Junior C Lacrosse League play at the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex Friday night.

The Thistles led 3-0 at the end of the first period and extended that lead to 10-1 by the end of the second.

Keegan Detweiler and Jon-James Lavigne connected for two goals apiece for the Thistles while single goals were netted by Owen Tovell, Carter Coffey, Aiden Mcdougall, Kaiden Patterson, Cole Doherty and J.J. Swanston. Detweiler and Garret Warnaar each had two assists while Tovell, Coffey, Mcdougall and Spencer Aitchison had one apiece.

Jack Henhawk and Conner Smith had a goal apiece for Six Nations while Jake Smith picked up an assist.

The Thistles outshot the Stealth 44-31 and the hosts scored a power-play goal while both teams scored a shorthanded goal.

Tyson Reeves turned aside 29 shots to get the win in the Fergus net while Sayoyehdehs Hill and Hagwas Hill combined for 34 saves as they split time in net for Six Nations.

The result leaves Fergus atop the West Division at 5-1-0 while Six Nations is at 2-5-0.

The game was the first of five consecutive home games for the Thistles. The next is Friday when they’re to host the Halton Hills Bulldogs (2-4-0) at the Centre Wellington Sportsplex.
