Thistles rally to finish regular season with win

CALEDON – The Fergus Thistles wrapped up their Ontario junior C lacrosse league’s regular season with a 14-9 victory over the Caledon Bandits Friday night at the Mayfield Recreation Complex.

The Thistles rallied from a three-goal deficit for the win. They trailed 4-1 at the end of the first period and led 8-7 after the second. Fergus held a one-goal lead with six minutes to go before scoring the final four goals of the match.

Logan Cameron led the Thistles with three goals and five assists while Trent Spear had three goals and two assists. Zach Cameron, Carson Stevenson and Jonah White netted two goals apiece while Justin Beaulieu and J.J. Swanston also scored. Adam Lantz set up six goals while Kyle Deitweiler and Zach Cameron each had two assists and Beaulieu, White and Louie Ristov each had one assist.

Andrew Rybka hit for three goals and two assists for Caledon while Noah St-Amant tallied twice and Jarett Petrie, Hayden Ramsay, Josh MacIssac and Jordan McArthur each had one goal. Petrie collected four assists while St-Amant and Cole Goodwin had two each and Matt Wadge, Ramsay, Davis Leibel, McArthur and Hughie Sheppard had one each.

Tyson Reeves picked up the win in net for Fergus while Jacob Ferreira took the loss for Caledon.

The Thistles are fourth in the West Division at 9-6-1 while Caledon is tied for seventh at 1-14-0.

Fergus will play either the Oakville Buzz (7-5-1) or Mimico Mountaineers (5-8-1) in the divisional quarter-finals. If the Thistles play Mimico, the Thistles will have home-floor advantage. Owner of home-floor advantage in a Fergus-Oakville series has not been decided.
