Thistles slip by Six Nations to finish regular season

HAGERSVILLE – The Fergus Thistles completed their Ontario Junior C Lacrosse League regular season Sunday with a 6-4 triumph over the Six Nations Stealth at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena.

The Thistles grabbed their two-goal lead in the first period as they were up 3-1 after 20 minutes of play. The teams scored twice each in the second and once each in the third.

Curtis Dietrich and Owen Tovell scored twice apiece for Fergus while Jon-James Lavigne and Aiden McDougall added single goals. Brock Reinhart assisted on four of the goals while Cole Doherty had three assists, Lavigne had two and Keegan Detweiler, Spencer Aitchison and Carter Coffey each had one.

Dalen Burning had a pair of goals for Six Nations and Kevin Henhawk and Keelan Point netted single markers.

Shots on net were not reported.

Ethan Bratton was the winning netminder for the Thistles while Sayoyehdehs Hill took the loss for the Stealth.

The Thistles finished atop the West Division with a 16-2-0 record while the Orangeville Northmen were second at 14-3-1. Six Nations was fifth at 5-13-0.

Seven teams in the division qualified for the playoffs with the first-place Thistles getting a bye in the quarter-finals.

They’ll play the survivor that finished the lowest in the regular season in the divisional semifinals.

All series are best-of-five affairs.
