
Thistles suffer first setback as they fall in overtime
GEORGETOWN – The Halton Hills Bulldogs scored a pair of goals in overtime to put an end to the undefeated start of the Ontario Junior C Lacrosse League season for the Fergus Thistles Monday night at the Mold-Masters Sportsplex.
Those two goals helped Halton Hills edge the Thistles 10-9.

Kaiden Merritt scored the winner for Halton Hills, his seventh goal of the game.
Both teams took turns in the lead and neither managed a string of more than three consecutive goals, something both teams did once apiece.
The teams were tied 2-2 at the end of the first period before Fergus jumped ahead 5-4 by the end of the second. A shorthanded goal by the hosts with 7:32 to go in regulation time left the score tied 8-8 at the end of the third period.
Keegan Detweiler and Aiden Mcdougall each scored hat tricks for the Thistles while Cole Doherty, Garret Warnaar and Owen Tovell added single goals. Detweiler and Curtis Dietrich had two assists apiece while single assists went to Mcdougall, Doherty. Jon-James Lavigne, Kaiden Patterson and Connor Willmets.
While Merritt had seven goals for the Bulldogs, Marek Lemme, Zakary Marshall and Blake Tonelli each had one. Lemme collected four assists while Braedyn Cyr had three, Merritt, Michael Holmes and Brodie Mytrote had two apiece and Marshall, Cole Fagan and Josh Burchart had one apiece.
Tyson Reeves was in net for Fergus while Logan Santori was between the pipes for Halton Hills.
Shots on net were not recorded.
The Thistles went 1-for-6 on their power play while the Bulldogs went 2-for-8. Both teams also had a shorthanded goal.
The result leaves the Thistles at 3-1-0 and Halton Hills at 2-1-0.
Next up for the Thistles is a game against the Barrie Bombers at Barrie’s Holly Community Centre Friday at 8 p.m.
