Three Guelph wrestlers claim provincial senior titles
HANNON, Ont. – Three members of the Guelph Wrestling Club were crowned provincial champions Saturday and the club finished second in the overall team standings at the Ontario senior freestyle championships at Bishop Ryan Catholic Secondary School.
GWC members to win Ontario titles were Chelsey Sicard (female 55 kg.), Gracelynn Doogan (female 76 kg.) and Korey Jarvis (male 125 kg.).
The Guelph club finished second to the Brock Wrestling Club in the overall team standings as Brock collected 134 points and Guelph had 71.
Brock also won the men’s and women’s team titles with 67 points in each. GWC was second in the men’s standings at 44 and third in the women’s standings at 27.
The Guelph club had three in the top four of the male 74 kg. class that was won by Ty Bridgwater of Brock. Alexander Chaves of GWC was second, Cole Michaelis third and Harvir Lall fourth.
The local club also had two in the top three in male 65 kg. class. Cruiz Manning of Brock, a former GWC member, won while GWC’s Elvir Uzunovic was second and Garett Sales third.
Natassya Lu was second in female 50 kg. Kristina McLaren of Brock won.
Gunnar Sales was runner-up in male 70 kg. class behind Patrik Leder of Team Impact WC.
Jake Michaelis was third and Sean Shoemaker fourth in male 79 kf. Class. Ben Zahra of McMaster won.
Jaivir Boal was third in male 97 kg. class that was won by Richard DesChâtelets of Brock.
Dalton Webb placed fourth in male 86 kg. class. Jacob Luczak of Lakehead WC finished first.
Other provincial champions were Brock’s Jade Parsons (female 53 kg.), Hannah Taylor (female 59 kg.), Jessica Brouillette (female 62 kg.), Indira Moores (female 65 kg.), Darrion Sterling (female 72 kg.), Samuel Jagas (male 57 kg.) and Ligrit Sadiku (male 61 kg.), London-Western WC’s Julie Steffler (female 57 kg.), Jennifer Nwamadi (female 82 kg.) and Jackson Browning (male 92 kg.) and York WC’s Christelle Lans (female 68 kg.).
