Three in a row in third lifts Patriots to victory
MOUNT FOREST – The Mount Forest Patriots struck for three consecutive goals in the third period to rally for a 5-4 victory over the Wingham Ironmen in Provincial Junior Hockey League play Saturday night at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex.
After a scoreless first period, Wingham led 3-2 at the end of the second thank to two goals in the final two and a half minutes of the period. The Patriots tied it less than two minutes into the third and grabbed the lead with two goals a minute and a half apart with just over six and a half minutes to go.
Parker Miller, Troy Weber, Luke Eurig, Ryley Cribbin and Dawson Bolger each scored a goal for the Patriots while Jack Birkett assisted on three of the goals. Getting one assist apiece were Colton Culbert, Thomas Coulter, Hayden Coulter, Chet Philips and William Black.
Logan Tolton had two goals for Wingham while Chris Adlys and Kyle Stanbury netted single goals. Chase Meurs collected two assists while Corey Restoule, Carter Collinson and Rhys Vollmer gathered one apiece.
The Patriots outshot Wingham 49-34 including a 17-8 advantage in the third period.
Both teams were scoreless on two power plays.
Aidan Quish had 30 saves to get the win in net for Mount Forest while Garrett Golley had 44 saves for Wingham.
Wingham leads the Pollock Division standings at 8-2-1-0, but the Ironmen have two games in hand on Patriots who are second at 6-2-1-0.
The Patriots are to play the Mitchell Hawks (5-2-0-1) at the Mitchell arena Sunday at 3 p.m.
