Three remain in hunt for top spot in senior basketball

GUELPH – Next week is to be the final week of the District 10 high school senior girls’ basketball league’s regular season and it’s shaping up to be quite a week.

With two game days left in the regular season, three teams teams remain in the hunt for a first-place finish – the Centennial Spartans (9-1), Orangeville Bears (8-2) and St. James Lions (8-2).

Centennial’s in the driver’s seat and they play the Centre Wellington Falcons (1-9) at Fergus Tuesday and host Orangeville Thursday. St. James plays at Orangeville Tuesday and hosts the Bishop Macdonell Celtics (6-4) Thursday.

Orangeville and St. James both posted wins Thursday while Centennial was idle.

 

Orangeville 57 Ross 49

Alicia Bowering led Orangeville with 21 points while Maggie Franz netted 14.

Emma Capper and Sarah Hopkins both scored 13 for Ross.

 

Bishop Macdonell 51 Guelph CVI 17

Tyla Timlock connected for 12 points for Bishop Mac while Alicia Higgins contributed 10.

Eve Elford had 11 for GCVI.

 

St. James 60 Centre Wellington 24

Elivia Garbuio netted 17 points for St. James.

Abby Taylor collected six for Centre Wellington.

 

Junior

Centre Wellington 59 St. James 33

Cass Tindall had a game-high 15 points for Centre Wellington.

Mia Boucher had 12 for St. James.

 

Ross 52 Orangeville 35

Bronwyn Sweeney’s 21 points led Ross while Ailani Curvan scored 19 and Maren Mau chipped in with eight.

Taya Williamson had 15 for Orangeville and Olivia Stephenson followed with 13.
