Thunder, Eagles to meet in senior soccer final

ORANGEVILLE – The Westside Thunder advanced to the District 4 high schools senior boys’ soccer championship with a 3-0 win over the Centre Dufferin Royals of Shelburne Wednesday.

August Walks scored all three goals for Westside while Joey Albanese and Spencer Payne shared the shutout.

Westside is to play the Emmanuel Christian Eagles of Fergus in Monday’s final. It’s set to be played at 2:30 p.m. at Victoria Park in Fergus.

The Thunder and Eagles finished the regular season with identical 5-1-2 record.

Emmanuel Christian gained its berth in the final with a win over the Norwell Varsity Reds in a shootout.

The teams finished regulation time and overtime tied 1-1 before the Eagles won the shootout 4-3.

Scoring details were not reported.



The Centre Dufferin Royals edged the Westside Thunder 1-0 in the semifinal Wednesday.

Tristan Szymanowski scored in extra time for the Royals. Abel Sales was credited with the shutout.

The win was the first of the season for the Royals who had finished regular-season play at 0-5-1. Westside was 3-2-1.

Centre Dufferin advances to play the Norwell Varsity Reds (5-1-0) in Monday’s final at the Palmerston arena fields. Game time is 2:30 p.m.
