Two-goal periods help Shamrocks double Burford

CAMBRIDGE – The Hespeler Shamrocks struck for a pair of goals in the third period to double the Burford Bulldogs 4-2 in Provincial Junior Hockey League play Sunday afternoon at the Hespeler Memorial Arena.

The second period was the difference in the game, though, as the hosts scored twice in that period to grab a 2-0 lead following a scoreless first period.

Tyler MacGillivary scored the second-period goals for Hespeler while Brenden Smith and Matthew Diebolt scored in the third. Getting one assist apiece were Braeden Tyler, Kyle Wagner, Gavin Logher, Brett Hartin, Matthew Hayward and Callum Harvey.

Connor MacPhee and Ryan Squires scored for Burford while Shayne Dickie assisted on both goals. Kyle Parsons also had an assist.

The Shamrocks outshot Burford 36-21 including a 29-12 advantage through the first two periods.

Tyson Gustaw had 19 saves to get the win in net for Hespeler while Nathan Butler had 32 saves for the Bulldogs.

The Shamrocks are to play the Woodstock Navy Vets in Woodstock Tuesday night and the Bulldogs in Burford Saturday night before hosting the New Hamburg Firebirds Feb. 13 at 3:30 p.m.
