U18 Junior Gryphons drop OSFL season opener

GUELPH – The Guelph Junior Gryphons opened their Ontario Summer Football League U18 season with a 35-14 loss to the Sarnia Sturgeon Saturday at Alumni Stadium.

Hudson Ndreu and Matthew Stam scored the touchdowns for the Junior Gryphs while Evan Nikolasevic kicked two converts.

Amrit Atwal completed five of 13 pass attempts for 22 yards while Ndreu completed six of seven for 89 yards.

Nikolasevic caught five passes for 67 yards while Boston Barry caught three for 36 yards. Kaden Butt had two receptions for nine yards while Caden Henry caught one for two yards.

Stam had two carries for 64 yards while Ethan Godinho had six carries for 12 yards. Ndreu had five carries for 10 yards while Atwal had one carry for seven yards and Yinka Ogunnote had two carries, but lost three yards.

Stam had 90 yards on punt returns and 55 on kickoff returns while Ogunnote had 25 yards on punt returns and 25 on kickoff returns.

Nikolasevic had 264 yards on punts.

Cameron Hewitt had four assisted tackles and six solo tackles while Lucas Jarmasz had four assisted and three solo tackles, Jevon Faulknor had two assisted and four solo tackles and Malik Faulknor had two assisted, three solo tackles and forced a fumble. Anthony Amooakoh had four assisted and a solo tackle, Owen Pavia had an assisted and four solo tackles, Braden Dixon had three assisted and a solo tackle and Nathan Stam had two assisted and two solo tackles.

Next game for the Junior Gryphs is May 27 when they’re to play the Forest City Thunderbirds at London’s Westminster Secondary School.
