Union breaking even following home loss to Woodbridge

GUELPH – Guelph Union saw their record in League1 Ontario Women’s Premier soccer play fall to the .500 winning percentage mark Sunday afternoon when they were edged 2-1 by the Woodbridge Strikers at Alumni Stadium.

Union’s record stands at 3-3-1, but they’re 1-3-1 in their last five games and 1-2-2 in home games. Union is tied for 10th in the 20-team league.

All the scoring Sunday came in the final 38 minutes of the contest.

Jessica Lisi opened the scoring for Woodbridge in the 53rd minute.

Cassandra Briscoe pulled Union even 22 minutes later.

Colleen Beesley gave Woodbridge the win with her goal in the 89th minute.

Libby Brenneman was in net for Union while Anika Toth tended goal for Woodbridge.

After playing three consecutive home games, Union is to hit the road Saturday for a 4 p.m. game against North Mississauga SC (2-4-1) at Churchill Meadows Park in Mississauga.
