United breaks into win column with victory at home

GUELPH – Guelph United scored a goal in each half to register a 2-0 victory over FC London in League1 Ontario Men’s Premier soccer play Thursday night at the Gryphon Soccer Complex.

The win was the first of the season for United as they had tied each of their previous two outings.

Gray Yates struck for the eventual game-winning goal in the 35th minute.

Milan Beader added the second goal in the 59th minute.

FC London pressed throughout the final 20 minutes as the locals were content to try to protect their lead.

Carter Robart had the clean sheet in net for United.

Darlington Murasiranwa was the keeper for London.

The game was United’s final regular-season game to be played on the University of Guelph campus this year. The remainder of their home games are to be played at the Centennial Park Bowl starting with a game May 23 at 9 p.m. against the North Toronto Nitros.

Before then United are to play Unionville Milliken SC at the Ontario Soccer Stadium in Woodbridge May 14 at 9 p.m.
