United hangs on to edge ProStars and keep undefeated mark

Guelph United remained undefeated as they hung on to edge ProStars Brampton 5-4 in League1 Ontario men’s premier division play on a scorching Saturday afternoon at Alumni Stadium.

United have won all four games they’ve played in their inaugural season in the league.

All nine goals in the game were scored at the same end of the field. United opened the scoring four minutes into the match on a goal by Tomasz Skublak and led 5-0 at halftime.

ProStars rallied in the second half, scoring twice in the first 15 minutes of the half and completing the scoring in stoppage time.

Skublak and Alexander Zis tallied twice apiece for United while Jace Kotsopoulos added the other goal.

Jevonate Layne had a hat trick for ProStars and Wesley Alcantara also scored.

The goals by ProStars, who fell to 1-3-0 with the loss, were the first yielded by United in L1O play.

Next up for United is a game in Oakville against Blue Devils FC Sunday, Aug. 29 at 2 p.m. At 3-0-1, Blue Devils are the only other undefeated team in the West Division.
