Varsity Junior Gryphs blanked by Hamilton
HAMILTON – The Guelph Junior Gryphons were handed a 46-0 setback by the Hamilton Varsity Tiger-Cats Saturday at McMaster’s Ron Joyce Stadium.
Hamilton struck for 10 points in the first quarter before adding 28 in the second and one in the third.
Brayden Kelly had touchdown runs of one and 15 yards for Hamilton while Dylan Bernardo also scored on a 15-yard run. Kyle Nalepa and Calvin Kelly each scored a touchdown on five-yard runs while Carter Miscione hauled in a toss from quarterback Anthony Pimentel and turned it into a 70-yard scoring play. Max Capriotti scored the other points as he kicked a 19-yard field goal, a rouge on 25-yard play and five converts.
Quarterback Peyton Garvin completed eight of 14 pass attempts for 58 yards. He was sacked three times.
Jakob Tomas caught three of the passes for 21 yards and Zach Swenerton caught one pass for 22 yards.
Johnny Wegman, who caught a pass for 11 yards, also carried the ball five times for seven yards.
On defence, Danny Nguyen had eight tackles while Logan Clyde had five and Riley Greer four. Greer, Kyle Ilczyna, Max Scheklesky and Seamus Milligan each had a sack.
The result leaves the Junior Gryphons at 0-2 while Hamilton improves to 1-1.
The Junior Gryphons are to host the Durham Dolphins at Alumni Stadium Saturday in the first of three consecutive home games. Game time is 6 p.m.
Regional Junior Varsity
The Junior Gryphons were edged 13-10 by the Toronto Jets in Ontario Provincial Football League regional junior varsity league play Saturday at Esther Shiner Stadium.

The Junior Gryphons are to host the North Halton Crimson Tide Saturday at 3 p.m. at Alumni Stadium.
