Varsity Reds, Bears hockey boys keep hopes of moving up alive

GUELPH – Both the Norwell Varsity Reds and Orangeville Bears kept their chances of finishing second at the completion of the District 4/10 high school boys’ hockey league’s regular season alive by posting victories Tuesday.

Norwell slipped by the Guelph CVI Green Gaels 2-1 at the West End arena while Orangeville dropped the Centennial Spartans 8-0.

Will Dennison and Ben MacRobbie had the goals for Norwell in the win over the Gaels. Noah Neumann scored for GCVI.

Scoring details for the Orangeville-Centennial game were not reported.

The Ross Royals have completed their regular season and have locked down a first-place finish. They’re at 10-2-0-0 while the Centre Wellington Falcons are second at 8-1-1-1 with a game to go.

Norwell is third at 6-1-2-1 with two games to go and they can finish a point ahead of Centre Wellington.

Orangeville is fourth at 6-2-1-1 and also have two games to go. They can finish tied with the Falcons and currently hold the tie-breaker. However, Centre Wellington’s final game of the regular season is against the Bears at Orangeville Tuesday. The Bears need to win that game and one against the Centre Dufferin Royals two days later to finish second.
