Varsity Reds, Thunder to decide first in senior volleyball Monday

PALMERSTON – First place in the District 4 high school senior boys’ volleyball league is to be decided Monday after both the Norwell Varsity Reds and Westside Thunder posted victories Wednesday.

The Varsity Reds and Thunder are to meet Monday at 1 p.m. at Westside on the lone game remaining on the league’s regular season.

Westside enters that match at a perfect 7-0 while Norwell is second at 6-1, the lone loss for the Varsity Reds being a 2-0 during a league mini tournament Oct. 23. Norwell needs to sweep Westside Monday to claim top spot in the league.

Wednesday, Westside defeated Emmanuel Christian Eagles 3-1. A 25-22 win by the Eagles in the first set was the first set the Thunder dropped in league play all season. Westside came back to take the match with 25-10, 25-14 and 25-9 set wins.

Norwell downed the Wellington Heights Wolverines 3-1, winning 25-20, 25-22, 19-25, 25-23.
