Varsity Reds, Thunder to hook up in senior volleyball final

PALMERSTON – The Norwell Varsity Reds and Westside Thunder will meet for the second time in a week Thursday as both won District 4 high school senior boys’ volleyball semifinal matches Tuesday.

The teams had met Monday at Westside to close out the regular season. Now they’ll meet Thursday at Westside to decide the D4 champion.

Tuesday, Norwell defeated the Wellington Heights Wolverines 3-1 (25-22, 20-25, 25-10, 25-12) while Westside swept the Erin Raiders 3-0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-19).

Westside had finished atop the league standings at 8-0 while Norwell was second at 6-2, the two losses were to the Thunder – 2-0 in a regular-season mini tournament Oct. 23 and 3-1 Monday.

Thursday’s final at Westside is to start at 3:30 p.m.

 

Junior

The Emmanuel Christian Eagles and Wellington Heights Wolverines are to play in the junior final Thursday at Wellington Heights after the Eagles surprised the Westside Thunder 3-2 in Tuesday’s semifinal.

The Eagles won three straight sets 25-12, 25-19, 15-6 after dropping the first two by 25-12 and 25-23 scores.

Wellington Heights finished atop the three-team league at 5-1 while Westside was second at 3-3 and Emmanuel Christian third at 1-5.

The Wolverines swept their three regular-season matches with the Eagles, winning 3-1 Oct. 9, 3-1 Oct. 21 and 3-0 Oct. 28.

Thursday’s final at Wellington Heights is to start at 2:30 p.m.
