Weather postpones Patriots-Wingham match

MOUNT FOREST – Friday’s weather forced the postponement of the Provincial Junior Hockey League match between the top two teams in the Pollock Division.

The first-place Wingham Ironmen (31-6-2-1) and second-place Mount Forest Patriots (29-9-1-0) were to have played at the Mount Forest and District Friday night.

A make-up date has not been announced.

The game was to have been the first of three for the Patriots on the final weekend of the regular season and they need to win all three to stand a chance of overhauling Wingham for top spot.

The Patriots are to host the sixth-place Mitchell Hawks (12-24-2-3) Saturday at 8 p.m. and play the Ironmen at Wingham Sunday at 3:30 p.m.

The two games against Mount Forest are Wingham’s final two games of the regular season. If the Ironmen win one of them, they secure a first-place finish.

The team that finishes first gets a bye in the division quarter-finals in the seven-team division.
