
Wellesley skates away from Shamrocks in third period
CAMBRIDGE – Three goals in the first 10 minutes of the third period helped the Wellesley Applejacks triple the Hespeler Shamrocks 6-2 in PJHL play Sunday at the Hespeler Memorial Arena.
Wellesley led 1-0 at the end of the first period and 3-1 after the second.

Riley Panagapka and Kwang Sheng Luu scored for Hespeler while assists went to Jett Spark, Thomas Giffin, Jack Restauri and Braeden Tyler.
Justin McCombs had a hat trick for Wellesley while single goals were netted by Kyle Baker, Isiah Katsube and Adam Hoff. Baker and Alexandr Sutchin collected two assists apiece while Owen O’Donnell, Jake Clemmer, Carson Wickie, Jake L’Heureux, Hoff, Mitch Penner, Austin Stemmler and Connor Bradley each had an assist.
The Applejacks outshot the Shamrocks 35-26 and went 1-for-3 on their power play while the Shamrocks went 1-for-8 on their power play.
Tyson Gustaw had 24 saves for Hespeler in 49 minutes of play while Ben Desroches had five saves in 11 minutes. Noah Bender had 24 saves in the entire game for Wellesley.
Hespeler is sixth in the Doherty Division at 2-13-1-1 while Wellesley is second at 12-4-1-1.
The Shamrocks have a pair of games this week. They’re to play the Tavistock Braves (third at 11-5-0-1) at the Tavistock and District Recreation Centre at 7:30 p.m. and host the New Hamburg Firebirds (first at 14-1-1-1) at the Hespeler Memorial Arena Sunday at 3:30 p.m.
