Wellington Heights grabs third in senior boys basketball

MOUNT FOREST — The Wellington Heights Wolverines secured a third-place finish in the District 4 high school senior boys’ basketball league with a 53-32 victory over the Erin Raiders Thursday at Wellington Heights.

Jake Bauman led the Wolverines with 13 points while Eli McDougall-Cook added 12.

Ethan Smith had eight for Erin.

Later in the day Wellington Heights was credited with a 2-0 win over the Centre Dufferin Royals when Centre Dufferin forfeited the game. It was first loss in league play this season for the Royals, but made no difference to the playoff pairings.

Centre Dufferin finished first at 7-1-0 and was followed by the Emmanuel Christian Eagles at 6-2-0, Wellington Heights at 4-4-0, Erin at 3-5-0 and Norwell Varsity Reds at 0-8-0.

In Friday’s semifinals, Centre Dufferin is to host Erin and Wellington Heights is to play at Emmanuel Christian.

Brayden Taekema hit for 16 points for Emmanuel Christian.

C. Claus had nine points for Norwell while Dawson Benjamins had six.

 

Junior

Centre Dufferin finished atop the league at 10-0-0 while Westside Thunder were at 8-2-0, Erin at 4-6-0, Wellington Heights and Norwell both at 3-7-0 and Emmanuel Christian at 2-8-0.

Friday’s semifinals pit Wellington Heights against Centre Dufferin and Erin against Westside.

Connor McCulloch netted 15 points for Norwell while Blake Skerritt collected 14.
