Wellington Heights keeps fourth place in view in senior volleyball
MOUNT FOREST – The Wellington Heights Wolverines kept their hopes of a fourth-place finish in the District 4 high school senior boys’ volleyball league’s standings at the end of the regular season alive with a 3-2 edging of the Erin Raiders Wednesday.
Wellington Heights won 25-16, 25-21, 21-25, 24-26 and 15-13.
With each team having one match to play in the regular season, Erin is fourth at 3-6 and Wellington Heights is fifth at 2-7.
However, should the two teams finish in a tie, Wellington Heights will win the tie-breaker. The Raiders and Wolverines split their two regular-season meetings as Erin won 2-1 earlier in the season.
As both teams also won the same number of sets during the season (four), the tie-breaker will come down to points scored during the matches. It’s close, too, with the Wolverines holding a 167-165 advantage.
Wellington Heights is to finish its regular season with a match against the Centre Dufferin Royals (0-9) while the Raiders are to host the Norwell Varsity Reds (5-4).
The other match will decide first as the Emmanuel Christian Eagles (8-1) are to host the Westside Thunder (9-0).
Westside 3 Centre Dufferin 0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-23)
Emmanuel Christian 3 Norwell 0 (25-17, 25-20, 31-29)
Wellington Heights 3 Erin 2 (25-23, 12-25, 25-21, 20-25, 15-12)
Norwell 3 Emmanuel Christian 0 (30-28, 25-21, 25-19)
Westside 3 Centre Dufferin 1 (28-26, 18-25, 25-22, 25-22)
