Westside claims first-place finish in senior hoops
ERIN – The Westside Thunder clinched top spot in the District 4 high school senior girls’ basketball league Wednesday with a 37-29 victory over the Erin Raiders.
While Westside and the Wellington Heights Wolverines finished with identical 9-1 records, Westside claimed first place by winning the tie-breaker. Westside won its season opener over Wellington Heights by seven points Sept. 25 while the Wolverines won their Oct. 16 meeting with the Thunder by five points and that was the tie-breaker.
Leah VanderByl scored nine points for Westside Wednesday while Mariah Barink and Ainsley Nevin each had eight.
Alisha Lorincz led Erin with a game-high 15 while Kyla Warren netted eight.
Wellington Heights 46 Norwell 20
Nina Rodrigues led Wellington Heights with 11 points while Erin Rooney and Sharon Kruizenga each had eight.
Georgia Ellison connected for seven points for Norwell and Karlyn Kuepfer had five.
Emmanuel Christian 38 Centre Dufferin 24
Scoring leaders were not reported.
Emmanuel Christian and Centre Dufferin finished tied for third with 5-5 records. Centre Dufferin won the tie-breaker by a single points as they had beaten Emmanuel Christian by 15 points Oct. 15.

Sara Haddow led Erin with eight points while Lauren Bailey and Emma Warren each had six.
Madison Bigler had a game-high 17 for Westside while Alex Keith chipped in with six.
