Westside finishes atop D4 girls’ soccer standings
PALMERSTON – Westside Thunder secured a first-place finish in the District 4 high school girls’ soccer league standings with a 5-0 blanking of the Emmanuel Christian Eagles Wednesday at the Palmerston Arena fields.
That win allowed Westside to complete an unbeaten regular season as the Thunder won all four of their games including a 9-1 win over the Wellington Heights Wolverines earlier in the day.
Emmanuel Christian finished second at 3-1 while the Norwell Varsity Reds were third at 2-2, Centre Dufferin Royals fourth at 1-3 and Wellington Heights fifth at 0-4.
Top four teams are to gather at Westside Monday for the district championships. Semifinals pit Centre Dufferin against Westside at 8:30 a.m. and Norwell against Emmanuel Christian at 10 a.m. The consaoltion final is to go at 12:30 p.m. and the championship match is to follow at 2 p.m.
Norwell 3 Wellington Heights 0
Erika Foster, Milana Perni and Zoey Moore scored a goal apiece for Norwell while Makenzie Vandermeer had the shutout.
Emmanuel Christian 3 Centre Dufferin 1
Hailey VanSydenborgh and Hanna VanSydenborgh scored for Emmanuel Christian.
Tara Isama scored for Centre Dufferin.
Westside 9 Wellington Heights 1
Sproule and Gillard had two goals apiece for Westside while Witor, Cockman, Russell, Bigler and Jin added single goals.
Vanveen responded with the goal for Wellington Heights, the lone goal allowed by Westside in their four wins.
Norwell 5 Centre Dufferin 3
Ella Black and Keely Franklin netted two goals apiece for Norwell while Zoey Moote also scored.
Tara Isama had all three goals for Centre Dufferin.
Westside 5 Emmanuel Christian 0
Scoring for Westside were B. Cockman, M. Crane and V. Russell while M. Sproule had the clean sheet.
