Westside finishes girls’ soccer regular season with win

ORANGEVILLE – The Westside Thunder completed their District 4 high school girls’ soccer league’s regular season Monday by posting their first victory.

The Thunder slipped by the Wellington Heights Wolverines 2-0 on Westside’s field.

J. Talbot and O. Jin scored the goals while M. Kerkhof had the shutout in net.

The result vaulted Westside to third place in the final standings at 1-1-2 while Wellington Heights remained fifth and out of the playoffs at 0-4-0.

Emmanuel Christian Eagles finished first at 3-0-1, the lone blemish being a 1-1 tie with Westside. Erin Raiders were second at 3-1-0, the loss being to Emmanuel Christian, and the Norwell Varsity Reds were fourth at 1-2-1.

Playoffs are to start with semifinals Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. Emmanuel Christian is to host Norwell at Victoria Park in Fergus while Erin is to host Westside at the Erin Public School.

Wednesday’s winners advance to the league final the following Wednesday.
