Westside Thunder claims D4 girls’ soccer honours

ORANGEVILLE – The Westside Thunder completed an undefeated journey through the District 4 high schools girls’ soccer season Friday when they shut out the Norwell Varsity Reds 4-0 in the league’s championship match.

Reegan Scott connected for a hat trick for the Thunder while Reagan Gregg also scored.

Kirsten O’Brien and Aliya Santos shared the shutout in the Westside net.

The Thunder won all six of its league outings with four victories in the regular season followed by triumphs in the semifinals and final. They outscored their opponents 36-2.

Westside advances to the CWOSSA AA championship tournament that is to be held at Brantford Tuesday and Thursday.

The Thunder will be in a group with Sacred Heart of Walkerton, Waterloo St. David’s and Paris for pool play Tuesday. They’re to play Sacred Heart at Kiwanis Field at 9 a.m., Paris at Mohawk Park at 11:30 p.m. and St. David’s at Kiwanis Field at 3:15 p.m.

Guelph’s District 10 champion Bishop Macdonell Celtics are in the other pool.

Top two in each pool advance to Thursday’s playoff round at Kiwanis Field. Semifinals are set for 9:30 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. with the winners getting berths in the 3:30 p.m. final.
