Westside Thunder clinches top spot in junior soccer

PALMERSTON – The Westside Thunder completed an unbeaten run through the D4 high school junior boys’ soccer league’s regular season by winning a pair of games Friday when the three-team league gathered at the Palmerston Arena fields.

Westside ran their victory total to six in as many league outings this year with shutout victories over the Centre Dufferin Royals and Norwell Varsity Reds.

I. Dray had a pair of goals an 8-0 win over Centre Dufferin while T. Bradbury, R. Lake, Lucci LaRocca, Christopher Llewellyn, L. Perro and R. Reid scored once apiece.

Steven Gibson and LaRocca shared the shutout in a 5-0 win over Norwell. Jaydin Hanson scored twice while R. Lake, L. Perro and O. Vehkavaara added single goals.

In the other game, Centre Dufferin shut out Norwell 3-0.

Tyler Thorne tallied twice for Centre Dufferin while Zach Kissoon also scored.

The win secured a second-place finish for Centre Dufferin.

The Royals and Varsity Reds are to play again Monday at the Palmerston Arena fields to complete the regular season.

They’ll also meet in the semifinal Wednesday at Centre Dufferin with the winner advancing to play Westside in the Oct. 22 final at Westside.
