Westside undefeated in D4 senior hoops

ORANGEVILLE – The Westside Thunder grabbed sole possession of first place in the District 4 high school senior boys’ basketball league with a 61-21 victory over the Norwell Varsity Reds Wednesday.

The Thunder leads the league by virtue of having played one more game than the runner-up Centre Dufferin Royals.

Westside is undefeated in three games while Centre Dufferin has won both of its games. The Wellington Heights Wolverines are at 1-2 while the Emmanuel Christian Eagles and Norwell are both 0-2.

Michael Horvath had 17 points for the Thunder against Norwell while Caleb Horn added 11.

Blair Butchart and Ry Kuper collected five points apiece for the Varsity Reds.


Wellington Heights 61 Emmanuel Christian 51

Wellington Heights had four players reach double digits in scoring: Eli McDougall-Cook with 13 points and Alex Iles, Jake Bauman and Raven Rea with 10 apiece.

Tyson Kroezen led Emmanuel Christian with 17 points while Aaron Westrik had eight.



Erin 54 Norwell 22

Ethan Smith collected 17 points for Erin while Colden Reay contributed 14.

Xavier Guevarra had eight for Norwell and D.J. Campbell hit for five.


Wellington Heights 57 Emmanuel Christian 34

Ethan Andrews struck for 23 points for Wellington Heights while Brody Rice collected 11.

Travis Vis led Emmanuel Christian with 11 and Zach Kroezen followed with five.
