White and Leilani squeeze out Grand Prix victory

ROCKWOOD – Keean White rode Leilani to victory in the $40,000 Kubota Triple Crown Champions Grand Prix Saturday night at Angelstone Tournaments.

Urged on by the crowd as they raced toward the final jump, White and Leilani recorded a clear round and a time of 38.229 seconds to win the jump off by 0.681 seconds. They were the last of seven rider/horse combinations in the extra round.

Nicholas Dello Joio and Sweet Tricia were second in 38.910 seconds while Rachel Cornacchia and Valkyrie De Talma were third in 39.294 seconds.

Mark Kinsella and Chaloubet finished fourth at 39.638 seconds, the only other rider/horse combo to go clear through the jump off.

Susan Horn and Balintore had a time fault while White and For Freedom Z had four faults and Yann Candele and Koultan De Torres had 15 faults.

The event, the feature event of Angelstone’s Champions meet, attracted 17 entries.

Angelstone’s August Tour continues with next week’s The International and concludes with the following week’s The National. Both Kubota Triple Crown Grand Prix events have $70,200 purses and 8 p.m. starting times.
