Windsor Spitfires pot four in a row to topple Storm

GUELPH – The Guelph Storm surrendered the final four goals of the game as they were downed 5-2 by the Windsor Spitfires in Ontario Hockey League play Friday night at the Sleeman Centre.

Alexey Toropchenko’s goal with less than four and a half minutes to go in the opening period put the Storm ahead 2-1, but Will Cuylle pulled Windsor even when he scored 30 seconds later.

Jordan Frasca gave the Spitfires a lead they wouldn’t relinquish late in the second period.

Isaac Ratcliffe scored the other goal for the Storm while Nate Schnarr, Keegan Stevenson, Cedric Ralph and Domenico Commisso each had one assist.

Cole Purboo had a hat trick to account for Windsor’s other goals. Daniel D’Amico and Jean-Luc Foudy each had two assists and Sean Allen had one.

The Spitfires outshot Guelph 39-28 and both teams went 1-for-3 on their power plays.

Anthony Popovich had 34 saves in net for the Storm while winning goaltender Colton Incze had 26 saves for Windsor.

The loss leaves the Storm at 19-11-3-4 while Windsor improves to 17-19-2-1 with the win.

The Storm is to host the North Bay Battalion (18-18-1-1) Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Sleeman Centre.
