Wingham Ironmen pull even with Patriots in Pollock final
WINGHAM – The Wingham Ironmen squared their Provincial Junior Hockey League Pollock Division final with the Mount Forest Patriots at a win apiece after scoring a 4-1 victory Sunday at Wingham’s Wescast Complex.
The Patriots won the series opener Saturday night.
Sunday, the Ironmen jumped ahead 2-0 in the first period before the teams scored a goal apiece in the second. Wingham added an empty-netter with 65 seconds to go in the third.
Troy Weber had the lone goal for Mount Forest while assists on the goal went to Dawson Bolger and Parker Miller.
Wingham’s points were shared between three players as Logan Tolton had two goals and an assist, Chase Meurs had a goal and two assists and Brady Becker had a goal and an assist.
Becker started the season with the Patriots, but was released after playing one game. He had played a total of 48 regular-season and 29 playoff games with Mount Forest the previous two seasons combining for a total of 10 goals, 21 assists and 186 penalty minutes.
Gleb Poliakov took the loss in net for the Patriots. He had 24 saves while winning goaltender Devon Carson had 27 for Wingham.
Both teams had three power plays and Wingham scored on one of theirs.
The best-of-seven series is to continue next weekend with an 8 p.m. game Saturday at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex and a 3 p.m. game Sunday at Wingham.
